Licence Rating and Endorsement

PPL – Private Pilot Training

Our PPL course provides foundational training for those flying under Visual Flight Rules (VFR). Students learn basic aircraft operation, navigation, meteorology, and aviation communication, leading to a licence that allows recreational and private flying.

CPL – Commercial Pilot Training

The CPL course prepares students for a professional flying career. Building on PPL competencies, it includes advanced navigation, systems management, human factors, and complex aircraft operations. Graduates are qualified for commercial roles in general aviation.

Instructor Rating

This course is for pilots aiming to instruct. It covers teaching techniques, flight briefing and debriefing, student assessment, and aviation theory delivery. Graduates qualify for a CAANZ Category C Instructor Rating and gain experience training student pilots.

Aircraft Type Ratings

We offer specific training on a range of aircraft types to expand pilot endorsements:

• Cessna 172 – Ideal for initial training and known for stability and ease of control
• Piper PA28 – A popular single-engine aircraft for cross-country and advanced PPL/CPL flying
• Tecnam P2006T – A modern light twin-engine aircraft used for MEIR and multi-engine training

Terrain and Weather Awareness (TWA) for PPL Issue

This course teaches pilots how to assess terrain and weather impacts on VFR flight. Based in Wanaka, students gain real-world experience in alpine conditions, learning how to interpret forecasts, manage wind effects, and make safe route decisions. All training is delivered by instructors with extensive mountain flying experience. TWA is required for PPL issue in New Zealand.

Basic Mountain Flying for CPL Issue

This course prepares pilots to fly safely in mountainous terrain and is a requirement for CPL issue. Training includes ridge crossings, altitude management, emergency procedures all delivered in the Southern Alps by instructors with extensive real-world mountain flying experience. You’ll learn these core skills and more, gaining confidence in complex terrain operations.

Single-Engine Instrument Flight Rating (IR)

The SEIR enables pilots to operate under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) in single-engine aircraft. It improves navigational accuracy, situational awareness, and operational safety in poor weather and low visibility.

Multi-engine Instrument Rating (MEIR)

This rating builds on the SEIR and prepares pilots to operate multi-engine aircraft under IFR. It covers asymmetric flight management, emergency procedures, and advanced IFR flight planning.

Biennial Flight Review

Our BFR programme ensures that pilots maintain safe and compliant flying practices. Reviews cover key flight operations, rule updates, and safety protocols as required every two years under Civil Aviation Rules.
